Hello there! If you’re visiting my blog, then you’re probably looking to learn more about losing weight. By far, the most popular post on this blog is my “How I Lost 25 Pounds in One Month“.
My story began 4 years ago at a pool party one hot summer day. I was visiting my girlfriend in Southern California and she lived in Newport Beach at a pretty upscale apartment community. The plan was to hang out by the pool and soak up some sun. It had been a few years since I was in a bikini, and I wasn’t quite sure if the one I had brought would fit me. I went into her bathroom and shoe-horned myself into it. It seemed to fit….kinda tight, but oh well. Time for some fun!
As the day drew on, more and more of our friends showed up to hang out and soak up the sun rays. I was thoroughly enjoying myself over a couple of glasses of wine and realized this is why people pay big bucks to live in Southern California. After the party was over I stayed for a few more days then went back home to my dreary life as a manager working for a mid-size company in the Midwest.
A few days after I got back my girlfriend Karen had posted the pictures she took of the pool party to Facebook. I was on my lunch break at work and decided to check out the photos. As I was clicking through the photos on Facebook, my thought process went something like this:
“Oh cool, there’s my friend Matt and his girlfriend Shannon”
“Oh look, there’s Dawn and Jessica smiling nicely for the camera”
Then on the 5th or 6th photo, I saw myself bending over the table pouring a glass of wine.
“Oh cool! It’s me!”
As my eyes drifted from my face down to my stomach, I let out a little gasp in shock.
“I’m not pregnant!! Wait, am I?”
No, I was not pregnant. I clearly had what can only be described as a beer belly. As my eyes moved downwards even further, I noticed that my thunder thighs had stretch marks on them and clearly stuck out.
At this point in time, my heart started to race as I flipped through more and more photos posted to Facebook. In every single one of them I was clearly overweight. This was the wake up call that I needed.
Over the past few years since I graduated college, I had devoted most of my time to my job. There were days when I came home so tired, that all I could do was throw something frozen into the microwave, then turn on t.v. before I passed out. Exercise consisted of me walking from my apartment to my car, and then from my car to my office desk and once more in reverse when the day ended. In short, 35lbs had creeped up on me in a matter of a few short years. I sent my girlfriend who posted the pictures a hasty email, asking her to delete the ones with me in them. After I got home that night, I went online and researched all of the factors that caused me to go overweight. As the days and weeks progressed, I read and read and learned as much as I could about weight loss. I was determined to not only get down to a healthy weight, but stay there.
