Ready, Set, Action!

As we begin the New Year, we typically spend a lot of time on goal setting and planning.  New Year’s resolutions are all the rage on the internet right now and you can get plenty of helpful advice all over the place.

Now that the eggnog is wearing off and we’ve had time off for play, it’s time to get back to work.  For me, that’s a good thing – a very good thing.  I love what I do for a living – do you?  I am so excited about the possibilities that this New Year holds – are you?  I am eagerly anticipating what I’m going to learn and the joy I get to experience on the journey.

Because my path and life’s work are my highest priorities, I find great personal satisfaction in taking action on my goals.  Not just any action, but Inspired Action.  Do the activities that take you closer to your life’s work the first thing every day.  Doing so gives you the energy, excitement, and enthusiasm to tackle anything else that comes your way.

Develop a ritual for connecting with your inner being every morning and asking for guidance.  For example, as soon as you wake up, ask yourself, “What one action could I take today that would bring me closer to achieving my ultimate goal for this year?”  Your Higher Self will answer.  Do that thing, then take the rest of the day as it comes.

Before long, you’ll find yourself asking your Higher Self for such guidance throughout the day and accomplishing even more.  No matter what happens, if there is action you can take to correct a problem or make a condition better, you’ll be inspired to it.

Within every situation is the opportunity for growth, expansion, appreciation, and joy.  God designed the universe in just that way and we should honor it by deliberating recognizing when we wander off the path, and re-direct our attention, in a deliberate, methodical manner, back to finding the joy in every circumstance.  Most of the time, some action will be required.

Live each day to its fullest, enjoying the journey.

Until next time,
Act Joyfully!

De-cluttering for Success

Have you ever felt like something was holding you back from reaching your full potential but you didn’t know what it was – you just couldn’t “put your finger on it?” I’ll often hear someone say, “I must have an energy problem; I can feel something keeping me from my success, but I’ve made every attempt I can think of to get rid of the blockage and it’s still there.”

Most people need look no further than their own home. The biggest energy drain on the human psyche is clutter – all clutter, physical and mental.

It amazes me how so many people will hold on to things out of guilt or fear. Guilt and fear are the two most wasted human emotions and yet we hang on to them relentlessly by hanging on to Grandma’s doilies fearing that she’ll haunt us from the grave or from guilt over not spending enough time with her before she passed away. I’ve known people who hang on to things from a divorce because “it was the only thing she didn’t take – I hate the item, but it’s the principle.”

Let it go. Let it all go. The Quakers had a saying: “The beauty of an object is in its usefulness.” If you’re holding on to something that doesn’t serve your present dreams, give or throw it away. If it brings you joy to look at, put it somewhere that you will see it on a regular basis. If you’re holding on to a belief that no longer serves you, let it go. We are constantly evolving and becoming more.

I had a rather unique experience with evolving and becoming more while writing this post that I’d like to share with you. I’m sure many of you will remember taking Speech 101 in undergrad. For my demonstration requirement, I prepared a recipe. It was made of simple ingredients that we could purchase at the store on campus and was prepared in a microwave. Several of my classmates told me for a couple of years after that class that they had prepared that dish on their own, several times, and really enjoyed it.

In searching for something different today for lunch, I thought of that dish for some reason. (-had no idea I would be writing about it.) I got out the recipe, checked to see if I had all the ingredients, I did, and I prepared it. It was . . . okay, but not something I’ll ever fix again. (Trust me – I made a note on the recipe.)

My point is that I used to love that recipe. And although it tasted exactly the same, it didn’t appeal to me any longer. My taste buds have advanced, along with my cooking skills!

After writing a note on the recipe, it occurred to me that maybe I should take a second look at the other recipes I had marked from all those years ago. As I perused through the cuisine of my past, I decided to throw the entire book away – who cooks in a microwave anymore? Then I remembered what I was writing about and thought, “how appropriate.”

Sometimes it takes more than one run-through to get rid of everything. I’ve kept that cookbook for several years now even though I haven’t used it. My husband is finally on board with the de-cluttering philosophy and I’ve been cleaning out our basement. The more I get rid of the more I want to get rid of and I’ve made three passes over just one wall. Some items have been down there for over 26 years and I’m just hoping that they are not the structural support for the house at this point! One thing’s for sure, we’ll find out.

Now it’s your turn to find out how freeing and energetically uplifting de-cluttering your life can be. Use this list as a guide but obviously add your own.

  1. Clean off and out your desk, both at home and in the office.
  2. Throw away all the useless stuff in the kitchen drawer, and any other “junk” drawers in your home or office.
  3. Donate to a school or library all of the books you’ve hung onto and will never read again.
  4. Empty your purse and put back only what you really use.
  5. Organize your wallet.
  6. Rid your bathroom vanity of toiletries you brought home but decided you don’t like. (Anything collecting dust probably needs to be thrown away.)
  7. Give or throw away all those ugly ties that you received as gifts but you’ve never liked or worn.
  8. Throw away your old underwear, socks, and shoes.
  9. Toss the pile of magazines by the bed or next to the sofa, or anywhere they might be piling up.
  10. Recycle everything you can around your house. If it can’t be used, get rid of it.
  11. Weed out your closet. Take out anything you don’t wear or love and send it to Salvation Army or Goodwill.
  12. Grab a trash bag and a vacuum, and clean out your car.
  13. Clean out the garage.
  14. Clean out your refrigerator.
  15. Chase out the dust bunnies in the basement.
  16. Empty all your wastebaskets and clean them out.
  17. Return all your wire hangers to the dry cleaner.
  18. Get rid of all the ugly sheets and towels you’ve had since college.
  19. Clean out your cleaning supplies - pitch out the half-used and clumped up Comet, the dried up and filthy sponges, and the gray pieces of soap.
  20. Clear up unfinished obligations and commitments.
  21. Clear out your inbox and Outlook tasks.
  22. Pay any money that you owe.
  23. Resolve any arguments from your past if you can, or just let it go.
  24. While you are at it, throw away any bad attitudes and the tired old stories of misery and failure as well.

Life is great. It really is. You just have to let it be. Get rid of anything, anything, that tells you or reminds you of times when life was anything but great.

Until next time,
Live joyfully!

The Secret of Quiet Excitement

A new reader recently e-mailed me to ask how I was able to lose 25 pounds in one month.  Unlike many others who have e-mailed me with that question, this reader seemed genuinely interested and open to the truth.  So I shared it with her.  My “secret” is simple and applies to every subject.  But before I share it with you, I want to cover all the bases first.

I didn’t set out to lose that much weight that fast, it just happened.  I wanted to lose 25 pounds, but I didn’t care how long it took.  The calorie-counting system I came up with worked a lot faster than I ever dreamed.  I’ve had scientists e-mail me with encouraging words, teasingly saying things like, “Duh, Debra, of course it worked.  Anyone who would approach the subject like you did would lose that much.  The speed will vary from person to person, depending upon many other factors of their physical health and body, but most people would find it to be very fast.  It’s just how science works.”  Then I’ve had, of course, the nay-sayers who say, “You lost nothing but 25 pounds of water.  You’re either crazy or a liar and shouldn’t mislead people this way.”  I’m guessing the diet didn’t work for that person!

Of the people who have used my system and had results, but not as quick results, they admitted that they had trouble at first, but that once they “got it,” that’s when things started to turn around for them.

“Getting it” means this:  You understand that anything is possible if you believe it strongly enough, AND, you believe that so strongly that you are excited about it.  The real power is in the excitement.  If you’re excited about something, you’ll stick with it because you know/believe it works and you don’t modify it because there is no need to do so – you understand/know/believe it will work and are excited about it.  The trick is to maintain your excitement, and that’s what I want to talk about today.

Think about the last time you were excited about anything.  What was it?  Did something miraculous happen?  If you kept your excitement to yourself, either deliberately, or just because you didn’t have time to tell anyone about it, I’ll bet you had a fabulous experience.  Every time I get excited about something, if I can maintain that excitement, which usually means keeping it to myself, I will get what I want out of the situation.  Let me give an example not related to weight loss.

I just attended one my National Speakers Association meetings.  I love the NSA and am very proud to be a member.  Every meeting I attend brings such great benefits to me I cannot even describe them to you with words.

At the first general session, if I am quietly excited about the meeting and what I hope to gain from it, I’ll find myself seated next to members who feel the same way, and are vibrating the same energy.

If I sit down next to someone and start talking about how excited I am about the meeting and what I hope to gain from it, that person invariably starts sharing previous negative experiences at other conferences and brings me down.  I’m sure you’ve had experiences like that.

The reason I was able to lose my weight so quickly is that I was able to quietly maintain my excitement level about the subject of losing weight.  I didn’t share my goal with anyone, so no one discounted my theory or the fact that I needed to lose weight, therefore, no one brought me down and I was truly expecting to lose the weight.  Then, when I began to see results after only one week, the momentum of my quiet excitement, combined with actual results created a synergistic effect to produce quick weight loss.

Now this, in my mind, brings up the question of “contagious enthusiasm.”  A lot of you are probably asking the question, “Are you saying that we should never show our enthusiasm about anything?  Wouldn’t that be kind of a downer in and of itself – if we couldn’t be ourselves or try to share our enthusiasm with others?”  No, I’m not saying that.  Here’s the difference.

In my seminars, I always start with upbeat music and stretching exercises, and then get the group to dance a little.  I find this wakes everyone up and gets their brain juices flowing sort to speak.  Doing this shows my enthusiasm for the subject of the seminar and gets my audience excited, in general, as well.  When you go to work or do whatever it is that you do, it would be fantastic if you could show a general level of enthusiasm for life.  Your life, your everyday life.  That’s great if you already do that.

BUT . . .

When you have a subject that you are struggling with, whether it is weight loss, finances, work relationships, personal relationships – whatever – you will be better off if you can find a way to become excited about the possibility of things on that subject moving in the direction you want, and then keep that to yourself.  Here’s another example.

Have you ever been excited about a business prospect, shared it with someone, only to have them say, “Oh, you don’t want to work for/do business with them?”

I could go on and on with examples like this, but I think you’re starting to get the picture.

I now want to address this from the other side as well.  What do you do when someone shares what they believe is a really great idea with you, but you don’t think it’s so hot?  Do you tell them?  I say no – keep your mouth shut.  What do you know about that person’s vibration, energy, and purpose in life?

Most of us would be much better off in our own lives if we could learn to “live and let live.”  That is, after all, what allowing your own well being is about:   Allowing good things to happen in your life means allowing others to have good things as well, whatever that means to them.  We weren’t put on this earth at the same time to be alike.  We are here to experience the contrast, grow with, and help one another.

Oprah recently had Sara Blakely, the lady who created Spanx, on her show.  I was so glad I got to watch that. (I was watching a repeat late at night, so I really don’t know how recent it was, please forgive me.)  Sara went to several people trying to give birth to her product idea, only to be turned down by everyone.  But she maintained her enthusiasm, quietly, and gave birth to it herself, starting her manufacturing company in her apartment.

There are many stories like this out there.

So, today, I challenge you to pick up an idea that you maybe once were excited about, but you let someone talk you out of pursuing it.  Yes, some ideas need to be tweaked a little in order to work.  That’s okay.  Edison had over 1000 versions of the light bulb.  Where would we be today if he had let everyone talk him out of his excitement?

Don’t live life in the dark; be quietly excited about what you want, and don’t squash others’ enthusiasm for their ideas.  Let’s work together for a brighter world, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and energetically.

Until next time,

Live in the Light of Quiet Enthusiasm!

Personal Development Retreat for Women

Well, I’ve been kicking this idea around for about a year now and I think I’m ready.  And since what we think about we bring about . . .

A reader contacted me about this time last year asking if I’d ever considered giving a retreat like Christine Kane.  I had not even heard of this type of thing, but as one who is always open to new ideas, I attended Kristine’s next retreat as “research.”  It was wonderful.

I didn’t feel that I was ready quite yet for that sort of thing, but after yesterday, I believe I am.  I spent the day with 11 wonderful women who share my passion for personal development.  We had a great time!  But honestly, I’m tired of the classroom approach for this type of material.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I will continue to do one day seminars; if you’re just starting down the path of personal development a one-day seminar is a nice first step.

But it would have been nice, especially with this group, to be able to “take a breather” sort of speak.  In the afternoon, it would have been nice to break out into groups and do some of the activities I teach:  One Hour of Solitude, vision boards, identity boards, personal mission statements, values clarification, personal strategic planning, time management, personal motivation, rampages of appreciation, etc.

I feel like I give a ton of great information, but it’s too much to absorb in one day.  It would be extremely beneficial to have the time to practice the ideas and concepts before going back to your “real” world.

It would be nice to offer massages, mani-pedi’s, facials, yoga, maybe a fitness class, treadmills, and wonderful, gourmet, food.  One-stop shopping; a total retreat where you could do all of those wonderful things for yourself that you’re always talking about, but have to run all over town to do and so, because it feels like a chore, you just never get around to it.

So what do you think?  If you would be interested in attending a retreat like this, please complete the form below.  You will not be obligated in any way.  I am just getting started on this so I know your commitment would depend on many factors:  cost, location, and timing, among others.  Completing the form below signs you up only for correspondence about the retreat.  I might send out a questionnaire asking for input and feedback on ideas as I create this, but that’s all – no spam – no sales pitches for other stuff, I promise.

Thanks for your support; have a joyful day, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Joy or Pleasure?

Today’s post is also available on podcast.

I had the opportunity last month to attend the I Can Do It conference sponsored by Hay House Publishing and attended a seminar led by Dr. Doug Weiss titled, “The Power of Pleasure.”  I got exactly what I wanted out of the seminar; I work so much I had forgotten how to identify those things that bring me pleasure so that I can enjoy my life more.

One of the sideline conversations that started after the course was the definitions of the words “pleasure,” and “joy.”

For me, what brings me joy is completely differently from what I consider to be pleasure, and if I tried to live solely on my pleasures, I’d need more and more to fulfill my life.  Let me explain.

Pleasure is something that you do for the fun of it.  Watching your favorite (uplifting) television show, playing tennis, going out for a nice, decadent, dinner, or going for a walk.

Joy is experienced when I do something that helps others on a deep level.  It’s a much longer lasting emotion and requires using my talents and acquired skills – and fulfilling my mission.

For a lot of people, their jobs bring them joy – actually, your job should bring you joy!  I’ve often used my husband as an example of someone who loves their work.  He loves being a Dentist – it brings him joy on a deep, satisfying level to help people the way he does.  He gets pleasure out of playing keyboards for a local community singing group or a church praise band.

After making this distinction for myself, I think a lot of people are labeled as “workaholics,” when they might just be pursuing their joy.  After all, it was my husband’s love for his work that inspired me to follow my passion for training and seminar leading.  It’s hard work, but I love it!  There’s a deep level of satisfaction that comes after a “hard day’s work” in this area – at least for me – and I could not get this level of happiness from an evening at Ruth’s Chris.

However, there is much to be said about reaching for pleasure, and that is the point that Dr. Weiss was making.  Pleasure is a much needed experience in our lives.  Without it, we can get burned out.  It’s all about balance.  We need those physical and spiritual pleasures throughout our day to give us a break from all the work – no matter how joyous it may be.  Without pleasure, we work too hard, and without joy, we are unfulfilled.

So start today by striking a balance between joy and pleasure; you’ll be glad you did!

Until next time,
Live joyfully, with lots of pleasure!

7 Ways to Increase Your Confidence

Whether it’s trying something new, or having to re-think old patterns and habits, all of us face the challenge of maintaining our confidence at times.  Here are a few tricks I’ve learned; I know you’ll find something that works for you.

1.  Immerse yourself in learning. One the biggest confidence boosters I know is when you’re so knowledgeable on a particular subject, it seems that no one knows more than you.  Now, you’re not going to use this to rub other peoples’ noses in it, instead, you’re going to feel confident that no matter what someone wishes to discuss on the topic, you will have something to share.  Yes, this can really impress people in meetings or even dinner parties, but the greatest benefit is the way you feel about yourself when you are well versed in the topic at hand.

2.  Dial it up. In “Your Destiny Switch,” Peggy McColl shares some wonderful insights on how to use your emotions to make your dreams come true.  Peggy would have you imagine (or even better – go out and buy) a dimmer switch.  At the bottom of the dimmer switch place the word, “Insecurity.”  At the top of the dimmer switch place the word, “Confidence.”  First imagine where you are right now.  Then imagine dialing it up.  As you do this, not only will your confidence increase, but you will begin to get ideas on how to increase your confidence.  It’s a double-whammy!  Don’t you love those?

3.  Remember your successes. Remember my post, “The Motivational Trick that Works - EVERY Time?”  The reason it works so well is because it reminds you of your successes.  A lot of times, that’s all I need to get my confidence back on track.  It’s like self-talk that so many motivational gurus discuss, only with proof behind it.  It doesn’t get any better than that!

4.  Look the part. Sometimes it’s helpful just to put on the right clothes and stand in front of the mirror.  Sometimes, we don’t have the right clothes.  So what do you do in that case?  Go out and buy them!  “You’ve Only Got Three Seconds,” applies to yourself as well. Want confidence on a regular basis?  Look your best every day.

5.  Act the part. Remember Spock on Star Trek?  I’ve written before about how Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played the Spock character, said that he became more logical and more like that character after playing him for so long.  Act like someone who is confident, act like you are confident, and, well, I think you get the idea, but here’s the quote again.

“Spock had a big, big effect on me.  I am so much more Spock-like today than when I first played the part in 1965 that you wouldn’t recognize me.  I’m not talking about appearance, but thought processes.  Doing that character, I learned so much about rational logical thought that it reshaped my life.”

So, play the part of someone with total confidence.  I don’t know why, but Donald Trump just popped into my head.  Hello, Don!

6.  Stand/sit up straight. Your mother didn’t like to see you slouching because it portrayed an image of you that went against what she wanted for you – complete and total confidence.  Along with looking the part and playing the part, standing or sitting up straight can help you to feel the part of utter confidence.  Try it.  Right now!

7.  Smile. Ah, the Power of a Smile.  There’s just no way that a person with a big, huge, grin on their face can be anything but confident.

Until next time,
Be confident!

Do You Have It?

Do you have it?  I had it and lost it, but then found it again.  Paula Froelich has written a book about “it!

What is it?  How does one find it?  Why is it important? Who has it? Where can a person go to get in touch with it?  When am I going to stop playing this game and define “it?”

“It” is that something special that makes you unique.  What makes you – you?  What is it?  Do you still have it?  If not, where did it go?  How can you get it back again?  That’s what today’s post is about.

We all know that we are unique.  We are told that from a very early age.  Then we spend a lot of time trying to fit in and be “normal.”  After a certain period of time, we grow tired of normalcy - and who wouldn’t? - so we go back to being unique.  However, we sometimes lose sight of those qualities that made us unique when we first came into this world.

I talk a lot on this site about finding your passion.  Your passion is part of what makes you unique, although there are only so many subjects and we often find others who share our passion – not so unique after all, huh?  But the way you go about pursuing your passion will be unique to you.  Your excitement, enthusiasm, and zeal for your life, your everyday life, are yours and yours alone.  Isn’t that wonderful?

There are other attributes about you that come together in a way like never before – and never will again.  So what are they?  Well, that’s for you to figure out, but I’m going to help you.

Below is a list of questions that you can answer yourself, or get help from others who know you well, that will help you in determining what “it” is.  Don’t worry, once you find it, you will know it, and becoming aware of it is so exhilarating that you’ll be glad you took the time to find/get in touch with it again!

Ready?  Here we go.

  1. What do you daydream about?
  2. What do you dream about at night?
  3. What qualities do others often recite about you?
  4. What qualities do you admire in yourself?
  5. What special skills do you have and enjoy?
  6. What gives you pleasure?
  7. What have you been told that you are better at than anyone else?
  8. When someone needs help from you, what do they ask you to do?
  9. If you could choose the perfect career, what would it be and why?
  10. When you remember your happiest moments, what were you doing?
  11. Of what achievements are you most proud?
  12. List three big goals you have set and achieved.
  13. List the three biggest lessons you have ever learned.
  14. List three people you are proud to say you know.
  15. List the most important places you’ve ever visited.
  16. If you found out you were going to die tomorrow, what would you list as your contributions to the world?  Why were you here?

Now, what is it?  You have it; I know you do.

If you’d like to share what you’ve learned from this exercise, feel free to leave a comment on this post.

Until next time,
Live with purpose!

Take Charge of Your Thermostat

Success . . .

Harmonious Relationships . . .

Amazing Opportunities . . .

Good Work . . .

Exciting Career . . .

Financial Abundance . . .

Joy . . .

Peacefulness . . .

Education . . .

Perfect Health . . .

Energy level toward all of these subjects:  In your control.  Completely.

Yep, that’s right.  You have complete control of your energy level and attitude on any and every subject in your life.  Whatever it is that you desire, you can adjust your energy level just like you control your home’s energy thermostat.

Got something in your life you want to change?  (We all do–)  Change the settings on your personal thermostat.  Take a few minutes to relax, picture the subject with a thermostat control, and turn it up!

Likewise, if there is something you’d like to lose or turn down a little, picture it, and turn the lever down.

The first step is to clearly decide what you want.  The good news is, once the change takes place, (and in my experience, it will change very quickly with this technique,) you can go back and “adjust” it again.  Isn’t that fantastic?!

So what are you going to take charge of today?

Discipline Yourself to Act on Your Vision

Your vision of where or who you want to be is the greatest asset you have.
–Paul Arden

While I love the above statement, it has been my personal experience that using your discipline to take action on what you are envisioning is where the power to transform your life truly lies.  Let me give you an example.

I visualize two-three different types of ideal workdays.  I am not the type who likes to do the same thing day after day.  I enjoy lots of variety.  But there are specific qualities and activities I value.  The phrase, “in an easy and relaxed manner,” is one of my favorite mantras.  (I know it might sound a-typical for a Type A to want anything to be easy and relaxed, but remember, we are generally control freaks as well, so it’s our own definition of easy and relaxed that counts! – but that’s another post – on with this show.)

So, no matter what I’m doing, I like to be un-rushed, unhurried, and not have too many things to do, people to see, or places to go, at one time.  I like my writing days to be at home, starting on the back porch where I can hear and watch the birds.   I like my meeting days to flow from appointment to appointment with plenty of time in between to get to where I’m going and have lunch when the time comes.  I like my in-office days to flow in an organized manner from task to task, which have, of course, been prioritized in advance.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I am a planner – a strategic planner.  You may also know that I have recently combined my planning sessions with intuitive guidance and have implemented the concept of segment intending.

Now here is where the rubber meets the road.  Are you ready?

Once you have visualized your ideal day, and you’ve planned out, at least one-half hour in advance, how you want your day to flow, you may find that you have to exercise your self-discipline in order to realize your creation.

What so many people do, and what I used to do, is this:  Plan your day, (and if you’re really good, you’ve planned it out the night before), but before you start, you decide to just check your e-mail first.  You find a few fires to put out, but after 30 minutes or so, you’re ready to start the day you planned.  Then the phone rings.  Someone you work with has a problem and would like your assistance, or just your input.  This person is a friend and you want to help, but it takes another half-hour to an hour.

By now you’re a couple of hours behind and you realize you are going to have to re-work your original plan.  So you spend another 30 minutes deciding what can be put off to tomorrow and, as usual, your top-20 payoffs, those long-term, delayed gratification benefits are the first to go.  But at least you have a new workable plan and you don’t feel overwhelmed.

Now it’s time for lunch.  Or, you decide to skip lunch and get caught up, but feel resentful toward yourself for having to do so.

At the end of the day, you feel frustrated and wonder where the time went.

Here’s what you need to know: You are in charge of your time.  You are the creator of your life experience.  You get to choose how you spend each moment.

Decide now that you want to be in control.  Just say to yourself, or better yet, write down the words, “I want to know in each moment what I really want.  I want to spend my time in the manner I have preset.  I want to create my life to my own specifications by focusing on each segment of time.”

From this point forward, you will be more aware of when you are getting ready to take a misstep, such as looking at your e-mail.  Then you’ll say to yourself, “No.  This is not what I want to do right now.  I want to stick with my plan.”

One of the most common expressions I hear every day in business settings is, “I just go with the flow.”  That can be a good thing if “the flow” is taking you where you want to be.  But if it’s not, going with the flow can send you barreling down a section of the river you never intended, and over the falls!

The Value of Enthusiasm

You’ve probably heard the adage, “Enthusiasm sells.”  You’ve also probably experienced the benefit of enthusiasm toward a project at some point in your life.  Today I’d like to explore the true value of enthusiasm and reflect on why it is so vital in our daily lives.

Think back to the last time you were enthusiastic about something.  Hopefully, this won’t take very long!  How did that project go?  How did it turn out?  How well did your life flow at that particular time?

If all went well, then you were able to maintain your enthusiasm for the duration of the project.  If things did not turn out so splendidly, I’ll bet that after reflecting on it, your enthusiasm waned.

Why is that?

Why is enthusiasm so important in the outcome of an endeavor?

When you are enthused about a subject, the feeling itself is a clue from your inner being that you are on the correct path.  You are fulfilling your mission.  You are creating your desires.  Any action you take while feeling enthusiasm will be worthwhile and fruitful.

As long as you can maintain your enthusiasm, all is well.

However, if you begin to lose focus, putting your thoughts on what you do not want, you begin to lose your enthusiasm, and your way.

For example, let’s say you have been wanting to start your own business, but are not sure in what industry.  Then one day, you get an inspired idea and you are completely enthusiastic about it.

What do you do next?

You tell someone.  Your enthusiasm propels you to think, and therefore talk, about it all the time.  Eventually, you tell someone and although very well meaning as they are, they begin to tell you stories of how your idea will not work.

Your thoughts begin to wander to statements like, “Well, they are right.  It is difficult to start your own business.  Lots of people fail every day.  I don’t have all the money I need to start right now anyway.”

Your enthusiasm is lost; and so is your dream.

Well, look at it this way; at least you didn’t invest a bunch of money before losing sight!  A lot of people do that, but that’s another post!

So, how can we maintain our enthusiasm when others, with all their good intentions, are constantly trying to convince us to be “realistic?”

Well, enthusiasm is a vibration, and it’s one of the best.  I’ve written two posts, How I Raise My Vibes, and 20 Ways to Raise Your Vibration that give lots of ways to get yourself feeling better about just about anything.

Find one of these that you can do while focusing on the subject with which you want to remain enthusiastic, OR forget about the subject altogether for a while and decide to come back to it later.  If you’re on the right path, you’ll get excited about it again.  Your inner being will constantly pull you toward your ultimate desire and there are many ways of getting what you want.  Work on maintaining the highest feeling you can and things will fall back into place.

The trick to getting what you want quickly, is to follow the guidance of your inner being the first time, and refuse to listen to the Nay-Sayers.  Just because an idea didn’t work for someone else does not mean that it won’t work for you.  No one else has your unique talent-skill combination to make your life work for you – only you have that.

So whatever it is you want, whatever idea you’re longing to pursue, I’m here to tell you to do it.  Go for it.  You can do it.  You’ve got what it takes.  Are you enthused?
