More Photos from Montana

Another couple of beautiful days in the wilderness!  I think I’m going to save the “food review” for next week; I’ll compile a list of restaurants we’ve enjoyed.

At this very moment, BJ is out hiking in the Many Glacier area, while I am reading, writing, and relaxing by the gorgeous lake.  The water here is a mixture of blue and turquoise, the trees are picture perfect pines, and the mountains are a majestic mosaic of green, rock, and snow.

We’ve met many wonderful people and everyone here is so nice - natives, transplants, and transits. I purchased a book our first day here, Pictures, a Park, and a Pulitzer, by Tom Lawrence.  The work features reprints from the Hungry Horse News, a local newspaper, with stunning photographs, editorials by Mel Ruder, and educational information about this area over a span of 32 years.  Reading articles written in the present tense from the 1940’s really deepens my understanding of the area - much better than a history book.  It’s amazing to see what has changed, and what hasn’t; what has been updated, and what has been eliminated altogether.

One of our favorite trips has been to Polebridge Mercantile, which opened in 1914 and is still here, serving pastries, cookies, bread, and other delectable treats.  We purchased a baker’s dozen of cookies and a pastry for breakfast the next day.  It was a long drive on a gravel road, almost all the way to Canada, but definitely worth it and the locals seem to agree.

Here are some scenes from the road along the way.

(Look Elaine - poppies!)

We spent all day Monday on the water; a raft trip in the morning and a boat trip in the afternoon.

I’ll have more news and photos to report on Saturday so stay tuned!

Until next time,

Live Joyfully!
