How many times a day do you have a negative thought?
Okay. Okay. I can hear the laughter coming through over the internet even as I write this in advance of your reading it!
So, what do you do about those negative thoughts?
If you’re like most people who have learned the law of attraction recently, you probably beat yourself up over it. Or you lose faith in your ability to utilize the law of attraction. Well, relax. I have a plan. And I’m going to share it with you. But first, let me explain a few things.
Every desire that you have is really based on two subjects – what you want, and what you don’t want. Think about it for a moment and you’ll find it’s true. If you want a new house, it’s because there are certain things you don’t like about your current home. New job or new car – same thing. If you’re wanting more money, it’s based on an all too familiar experience with feeling like you don’t have enough. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.
Our desires are born out of lack and bad experiences. We know what we want because of experience with what we don’t want. Sometimes, we even deliberately attracted those things into our lives. We thought we wanted a certain thing, but when we got it, we realized it wasn’t as good as we thought it would be so now we want something else. That’s okay. It happens – all the time.
However, a lot of times when we think we’re focusing on what we want, we’re really focusing on what we have, using the excuse that it’s reality. But the fact is, the only reason it’s our current reality, is because we, in our past, wanted what we currently have, or made decisions that brought us what we have. All we have to do is change our thinking, and our reality will change.
So you say, “I’ve been thinking about what I want, day and night. But I still don’t have it. How long am I supposed to wait?” This is what is known as “resistance.” And resistance, by the very nature of the word, keeps us from realizing our dreams. But I am going to help you overcome it. Ready? Here we go.
The first step is to recognize your mood and catch yourself having that negative thought. Just being able to this will make letting go of it a lot easier. And it doesn’t have to be a certain thought, either. Just being in a bad mood, even if you don’t know why, is resistance. So it’s vital to your well-being and achievement that you begin to recognize this resistance as quickly as possible.
The second step is to work on your mood, one little negative emotion at a time. In Wednesday’s post, I listed 20 ways to raise your vibration. Do whatever it takes to feel good as much of the time as possible. And when I say, “feel good,” I’m mostly talking about emotions here. I know that feeling physically bad can make us cranky as well, but that’s another blog post. What I want you to achieve is that feeling of “All is well.” “It’s all good.” “Don’t worry, be happy.” I mean, you’re naturally going to be tired at the end of a hard day’s work, but you should feel good about it. If you are feeling bad because, say, your back is hurting, think of a way around that – like taking some Tylenol – for example. Then check your emotions after an hour. If the pain is gone, but you’re still in a bad mood, that’s resistance. The point here is, you can change how you feel and just taking one little step helps you feel in control, which makes you feel better and lessens the resistance.
The third step is to reverse your thoughts. Reversing your thoughts will reverse your conditions, so you only want to do this on conditions you want to change. If you continue to think what you’ve thought, you’ll continue to get what you’ve got. So focus on what you want and the way you want things to be for you. Forget about the past, and ignore what you think is “reality” right now; you’re changing reality in every moment with your positive thoughts and good vibrations.
The fourth step is that when something happens to remind you that your reality isn’t perfect, take control by deciding to make the best of the current situation, and strive to make it just a little bit better. Just say to yourself, “I’m going to find a way to make this one percent better than what it is right now.” Do this over and over again, every time you experience the situation, and things will get better. Try it – you’ll see.
The fifth step is to continue catching yourself throughout the day, and have fun with reaching for a better-feeling thought. After a while, this pattern will gain momentum. Let’s just say you have 1,000 negative thoughts per day. If at least half of the time, you can catch yourself and reverse it, then your pattern of letting go is as strong as your pattern of resistance. Eventually, as you continue to do this, your pattern of letting go becomes a pattern of letting it in as it overcomes the pattern of resistance. This is when you will start to see things materialize in your life. You’ve seen it already though. We’ve all attracted good things to us; ultimate success is a matter of catching hold of a consistent formula that grants results.
Try keeping a list of the subjects of your negative thoughts. I don’t want you to write down the negative thoughts themselves, because I don’t want you to reinforce those. Just keep a list of the various subjects that come up throughout the day that you feel negative about.
What you will probably notice, is that you are dealing with the same issues over and over again. Deal with those issues, do whatever it takes to resolve them, and your resistance won’t have a foothold anymore.
When all else fails, remember to practice appreciation, both of yourself and others. In appreciation, there is no resistance.

Great Post Debra! In my opinion, overcoming negative resistance is the most important step in the deliberate creation process. It’s pretty simple really. If we think about why we want to attract something into our life chances are, it is to make us happy. So if our goal is to be happy why not feel happy first and then the universe simply answers with more things, people, and events to continue that happy feeling!!!!
Stay Positive!
