Hydration is a Wonderful Thing

I got a massage this past Thursday.  I’m ashamed to admit it, but it’s the first one I’ve had in about a year.  Even though it helps me tremendously, I have a difficult time making time to get it scheduled.

What I want to share with you today is something I learned in the process of getting ready for the massage.  As you know, I do a lot of gardening and lately have been doing extra cleaning duties with the new dental office.  As a result, my hands get very dry and chapped.  Gloves do not help much because with the length of time I have to wear them, my hands sweat.  (I wear gardening gloves for the proper chores, of course.)

In preparing for my massage, I gave myself a pedicure and noticed some rough skin around my heels.  Must be another symptom of turning 40!  To remedy the problem, I applied lotion.  Then I figured, while I was at it, might as well put lotion on my legs as well.  Next thing I know, I’m applying lotion to my entire body.  What a wonderful feeling!  I had no idea that I was so “dried up!”  It literally felt like taking a cool drink of water on a hot day.  And that good feeling lasted through to the next day as well.

For obvious reasons, I’ve been applying lotion every day since then, and plan to keep it going – another beautiful daily ritual.  I’ve definitely noticed the advantages to drinking more water, and I believe this new habit will feel much the same.

It definitely brings new meaning for me to the phrase, “comfortable in your own skin.”

Until next time,

Live Joyfully!

Debra, Nice post. I am not quite 40 and I have the same problem with dry skins on my heels. Wonder if lotion would help the problem as it did with you!

  2. Thanks, Jen. I’ve had luck with Neutrogena’s Cracked Heel Moisturizing Treatment. First that has actually worked - hope you can find it.

    Hi Debra…

I laughed when you mentioned about things happening when turn 40 — and how! Before 40, I could do anything and I did everything to my skin without any problem whatsoever… but that magical age happened and I developed dry skin bigtime! I wholeheartedly agree hydrating your body on the inside and on the surface — it’s imperative to drink heaps of water (not mixed with anything) and also moisturise incredibly liberally! My body certainly lets me know in no uncertain terms if I’m low on water intake and haven’t used enough moisturising lotion.

Bless you 40 — I didn’t know I was alive until you arrived!

  4. What a great sentiment, Jeanne - “Bless you 40 . . .” I love that! And I should probably write an article on plain water. Tea doesn’t count - ask me how I know!!!

Thanks for your comment - I appreciate you!
