Embrace Life

I hesitate a lot in life.  It seems weird for me to say that because I’ve attempted and accomplished a lot in my 39 years.  However, for all the successes I’ve had, I’ve also held myself back a lot, too.  Are you guilty of this as well?  Here’s what I do.

I’ll have a great idea – or something I really want to do.  Then, I run it by my husband, who is usually supportive, but it really depends on what kind of mood he’s in.  Next, I’ll weigh the “pros and cons,” and if any of the cons make me the least bit uncomfortable, or if there is any part of the strategic plan I do not already know how to implement, I hold back.  I tell myself that I need to do more research before pursuing it.

Sometimes I get into situations where I feel a strong urge to do something, but I hold back depending upon whom I’m with or who else is in the room.  I too kindly don’t want to outshine others, even though I know I easily could.

You know what I’m talking about.  You’ve done it before yourself.  Especially, if you’re a woman.

So what do we do?  How do we overcome this – whatever it is – fear, hesitation, procrastination, or stagnation?  I’ll tell you what I am going to do.

First, I am going to display this quote from Bob Proctor where I can see it every day:

We can either tiptoe through life and hope that we get to death without being too badly bruised or we can live a full, complete life achieving our goals and realizing our wildest dreams.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of tiptoeing.  I’m tired of allowing other people to get rich off of my ideas.  I’m tired of doing all the work while others profit.  I’m tired of holding back, just to save someone’s feeling when, without a doubt, this person would not do the same for me.

Now, don’t get me wrong here.  I do like to help others.  I like to freely give and not know if that particular person will ever “repay” me.  I believe in the “Pay It Forward” concept and always will.  What I’m talking about today is different.

Mostly, I hold myself back when I have a choice between doing what is best for me and doing what is safe.  I hold myself back when I have a choice between looking after my own best interests versus someone else’s.  I always let the other guy win.  I take second place, on my own volition, and then I get upset about it.

No more.  Starting today.

When I’m on my deathbed, I do not want to regret all the times I put someone else first.  I want to be happy about those times.  And the only way to distinguish between the two is to be true to myself and put myself first when I know the time is right.  Stop hesitating.  Stop tiptoeing.  Embrace life by embracing the opportunities the universe presents to me.  Take advantage of them.  Many of them, are mine, and mine alone.  They are my wildest dreams and ambitions.  And it’s time to embrace them in every moment.

How about you?  Are you ready to embrace life?
