Change is Safe if you do this . . .

In my day-to-day business world of consulting I’m often told that people hate change.  Personally, I’ve never understood this since I thrive on change.  I must have variety in just about every aspect of my life.  I guess I’m lucky in that I’ve always felt safe when it comes to changing something about myself.

However, I have noticed throughout the years that this axiom of, “people hate change,” does seem to be true as a generality.  So my attempt today is to help those of you who experience a little discord with the concept of change.

One thing I am not going to do is get in your face about it.  It drives me nuts to hear a motivational speaker get on her soap box about how “change is everything – everything changes.”  Yeah, yeah, yeah; I think we all know that by now.

So what would help those who have a real fear of changing something big and important about their lives?  I mean, most of us don’t get all that upset over a wardrobe change or even a hair cut.  But changing careers, building a new home, moving to a new city, anything that would really upset the status quo brings out the claws digging into the carpet for some of us.  What would help overcome that?  More importantly, what would help overcome that feeling of fear?

The answer is in your inner guidance.  Your inner being, God force, guardian angel, whatever you call it in your religion, is constantly communicating with you.  You do not have to “get in touch” with your inner self, you are always in touch with your inner self whether you know it or not.  And this inner being is constantly sending you messages both in your thoughts and feelings, as well as in your outer, manifested world.  I’m sure you’ve heard someone say, “I took it as a sign that it was time to move on.”  Well, they were right.  Gut feelings, goose bumps, dreams, unusual events or even animals placed in front of us are signs that our prayers are being answered.

Often, your inner guidance will prompt you to take action that will support your ultimate happiness, and that requires, you guessed it, change.

So here is where the rubber meets the road:  When you are faced with a gripping fear of change, ask your inner being for guidance.  Then, sit back, get quiet, and listen.  The answer will come to you.  If you follow the guidance you receive, there is nothing to fear.  Guidance of this type will almost always lead you one step at a time and I mean, one, single step.  The next step will not be revealed to you until you take that first step.  If you refuse to take it, another course of action will be revealed to you.  The only “consequence” is a delay in the realization of your dreams, and an altered course on how you get there.  See, everything always works out for the best because your source energy is constantly calling you toward what you are meant to become.

I have found that just in realizing this, people have much more confidence.  They learn that it’s okay to say “No” to things they don’t want to do because if it’s meant to be, it will be.  This concept also helps them muster up the courage to try new things because they realize that they cannot fail either; the calling would not be there if it were not meant to be.

Everyone I know who has ever failed at something always says, “But I wouldn’t change a thing even if I could because I learned so much.”  Successful people know that life is a learning process and that change is an inevitable event that happens whether we want it to or not.

So spend some time in today, perhaps One Hour of Solitude, recalling any thoughts, ideas, or feelings that have been repeating themselves in your life.  When you feel the motivation to take action, do so.  You’ll be very glad you did.

Until next time, have a joy-filled day!
