Taking the “Act as if” Principle One Step Further

If you’ve been listening or reading self-help material for very long, I’m sure you’re familiar with the “act as if” principle.  Just in case, I’ll briefly describe it for you.  Once you set a goal, begin acting as if you have already achieved it.  When your actions reinforce your beliefs, you will soon have whatever it is that you desire.

Today, I want to take this one step further based on a new concept I have learned from reading Esther Hicks’ latest book, The Astonishing Power of Emotions:  Let Your Feelings Be Your Guide.  I’ll start with a quote:

If you were as sure of who-you-are as the inner part of you is, you also could turn your undivided attention toward the new ideas; and if you were to do that, you would feel an eagerness for life, a clarity of mind, and a vitality of body that would be indescribably wonderful.

When you decide what you want, set a goal, dream, or however you choose to phrase it, your inner being responds by directing all of its attention to becoming that which you have decided you want.  Your inner being becomes your desire.  Once that happens, your inner being will begin to guide you in the way you need to go so that you, in your physical body, can get there as well.  Isn’t that great news?!

So what Esther is saying in that quote above is that if you knew that you could not fail, and that anything you want is truly within your grasp, (because it is), you would follow the guidance of your inner being without holding back, without hesitancy, and without doubt.  And when you act in this way, the action you take is wonderfully fun and exciting!

That paragraph I’ve quoted for you above is on page 23 of the book and it truly changed my life a couple of weeks ago.  I am acting with a renewed sense of self-confidence because I am acting on the guidance of my inner being.  And I do have, “an eagerness for life, a clarity of mind, and a vitality of body that is indescribably wonderful.”

The synchronicities I have experienced in doing so have been truly amazing.  I’ve been listening to my inner voice and following that guidance for some time now.  But knowing that it is because a part of me has already become my dream is so uplifting!  I feel like I finally know what the author of the saying, “Let go, and let God,” meant.

We’ve discussed on this site before the power of belief.  You must believe in order to receive.  We’ve also discussed the importance of taking action, but not just any action, inspired action.  The action you take will either make sense, or, if it’s something with risk involved, it will feel like the right thing to do.

Too often, we know something is right, but we talk ourselves out of it.  Does that mean we can’t achieve our dreams?  No, it just means that it’s going to take a little longer.  Your inner being will have to find another route and find another way to call you to it, and then convince you to take it this time.  But, “if you were sure of who-you-are as the inner part of you is . . .”

I challenge you today to go back and review all of your goals.  Now, knowing that your inner being has already achieved these things and is calling you toward them, what will you do differently?

Yes. I truly believe that happiness can be taught and that it’s something that you can get with Gratitude. Generating Gratitude Energy should be a habitual exercise. It’s a bit difficult at first, But once you get in the flow, many other benefits will follow. Not just contentment, but abundance as well.

May your days be filled with Gratitude Energy ;-D

Last week, after dithering about something that’s important to me for too long, I made up my mind to ‘act as if’ - and I experienced exactly what this quote mentions.

Like you say further on, for this to ‘work’ there needs to be belief and inner guidance, which allows for inspired action.

Sometimes it’s just time to finally leap off that cliff.

    Debbie:

I really enjoyed this article because it pertains to what I’m feeling, thinking and acting these days. I’m a new fan of the Abraham-Hicks teachings and have bought two of their books already. I will probably get the book on emotions as well since I like their teachings, style of writing, etc.

More than ever, I’m relying on my intuition and it is leading me to a new way of life, which is really interesting, exciting and uplifting.

    Alston,

In my experience, it is those times when we seem to be getting nowhere that the greatest things are getting ready to occur. Have faith and patience, my friend, it will come.
